Hi friends,
So, I had a text message this week, it was from a lady who wanted her feet looking at. We arranged for me to give her a call the next day to discuss and arrange an appointment. When we had our conversation she told me her son had told her about me. When she told me who her son was I was quite surprised, it was only the GP who was my boss at the GP surgery I use to work at. Now, I’ve not been in touch with anyone from my previous job in over 5 years, so felt touched that I was remembered and referred to.
One thing I took away from this was, yes it’s good to know people, but also to be remembered. You’ll hear a lot from foot health practitioners who have been practising a while, that they don’t need to advertise much now because a lot of people contact them by word of mouth, and it’s true, previous clients remembered their care and recommended them to others. In this case, I’d never treated this GP as a foot care client, but the way I took it was, he remembered me as a clinician and trusted me with his mum’s foot care. I felt really touched actually.
You know, even if you’re remembered all of a sudden because a person re-finds your business card or flyer in their kitchen draw after a couple of years and got back in touch with you, or passed on your details. That’s great too.
The truth is, for a lot of new FHP’s, when starting out, it can be slow and often it’s hard to know where to start. I say be vocal about it, when you’re in your current job, at the supermarket, picking up the kids, yoga or where-ever. I mean, why not!
For me, now both kids will be at primary school, I now need to be a little more vocal as I open up more foot care appointment slots too. And if I advertise, my go-to is the parish news. Hasn’t failed me yet :)
Anyway, hope you’ve had a good week, until the next one….
