Hi friends,
Recently I was asked in a couple of conversation how often I work in the week, and when I told them I’m part time, they asked, ‘when do you think you’ll increase your hours to full time?’, and said ‘…once the kids start school you can start working full time’, or along the lines of.
You know, as a self employed person, I don’t actually have to work full time! I can choose my days, hours, and my wage. As long as my part time income is enough to cover my outgoings and gives me my desired wage, why would I want to work full time if I don’t have to. I mean that’s one of the reasons I became self employed, to work on my own terms. And as much as I love my job, the older I’m getting, the more I’m starting to value time, especially being an older mum with young kids.
In all truthfulness, when I started out, I felt like I had to be full time because that’s what was ‘normal’, I’d been doing it so long in my employed work. The truth is, working full time in my previous employed roles were exhausting, mentally and physically, also having to ask permission for time off to have a break. Honestly I much prefer working part time and for myself. It works well for me, and definitely for my little family.
Now obviously if my personal situation was different or changed to what it is now, then my choices will be based off of that, as I know some have no choice but to work full time hours, granted.
But honestly, I’m happy being part time and don’t see that changing any time soon.
Have a lovely weekend and see you next week,
Jess 😍
